Outdoor furniture timber characteristics and care
Eden outdoor furniture is proudly made in New Zealand by Danske
Møbler. It is assembled with corrosion-free stainless steel
bolts and screws and marine epoxy glue for all weather strength.
The timber used is Courbaril wood sourced from strictly managed
forests. It is one of the most durable in the world; the ultimate
wood for use outdoors due to its inherent strength and density.
Expect cracks, splits and twisting to appear in the timber, particularly
on the end grain and to the lesser extent on the surface. This is
normal behaviour of wood suitable for use outdoors, occurring as
the natural oils and minerals evaporate with exposure to the sun,
wind and rain. The furniture is designed with this in mind and its
strength and durability remain unaffected.
To maintain the 'treated' look of your furniture, regular use of
the Eden brand wood oil, or any commercially available outdoor decking
and furniture oil, is required. However, the furniture may be left
untreated if preferred and will weather to a silvery grey over time.
Weathered:
Untreated, the wood will turn a silvery grey.
Some cracking, splitting and twisting is to be expected.

Treated:
Treated from new, the colour will be maintained and the aging
process retarded. Some cracking, splitting and twisting will
still occur.
To maintain the 'treated' look of your furniture, a regular re-oiling
maintenance programme must be established.

How to care for indoor wooden furniture
Wipe over with a damp warm cloth followed by a dry soft cloth
(do not use a greasy dish cloth).
To remove grease, add a few drops of detergent to a bowl
of warm water then dampen a cloth with this solution and wipe
over. Always clean off with another clean damp cloth and wipe
dry.
To rejuvenate Mahogany, use a small application of Teak wax
from Danske Møbler. Caution: Do not use any other wax
or oil, especially any with silicone content. Most rimu is
protected with a satin polyurethane finish that does not require
polishing.
Things to avoid on wooden surfaces include: nail polish remover,
synthetic glues, solvents etc, lemon juice and vinegar.
Direct heat from casseroles, tea pots and coffee mugs etc,
should be avoided. Hot items placed on anything containing
moisture will steam the surface and cause surface blemishes.
Frozen items can cause a similar effect. The best rule to
follow is: if it's too hot to hold, it's too hot for an unprotected
wooden surface.
A 'Bulgomme' rubber table protector is recommended for use
under table cloths for dinner parties etc, or when laying
heavy or sharp objects down.
Try to avoid dragging or sliding heavy cabinets across the
floor. Lift if possible.
Avoid rocking back on chairs as this will weaken the chair
joints.
